Knitted shoulder bag purse pattern – chocolate sparkles

September 2, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I named this knitted purse “chocolate sparkles” for it’s gorgeous deep chocolate colour with lovely sparkles in the yarn which catch the light making it glitter and shimmer.

My original plan for this yarn was an evening scarf, but I needed a bag I could keep on my shoulder when I’m out in the evenings – let’s face it, it’s no longer safe to put your bag on a table or chair and leave it unattended while you dance, or mix and mingle.

I kept the design simple, letting the yarn do the talking, so the pattern suits beginners onward. The finished measurement is 24cms (9.5 ins) wide x 20cms (8 ins) high not including the strap, which you can adjust to your preferred length, and can be finished lined or unlined.

You’re welcome to download the pattern free (in pdf format) for your personal use. I’ve loaded it to

I hope you enjoy knitting some of these purses, if you have any questions, ask me through this blog or on the form you’ll find on the website.
bye for now…

Knitting pattern – cute cable bag update.

September 2, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Has anyone downloaded and started knitting the pattern I mentioned in my 22nd August entry?

I casted on and knitted a few rows, then decided this was going to be much larger than I’d expected.  So I did the maths (divided number of cast on stitches by the tension) and discovered the bag will not be the size the pattern specified.  Ordinarily that wouldn’t be a major problem, except in this case the handle sizes need to be larger than specified for the bag to hang at the bottom of them – as shown in the photo – also I’m not sure the larger size won’t look rather silly with a bow.    What do you think?
